Insurance Coverage for Counselling

At Pierre Begrand Counselling, I understand that investing in your mental health is an important decision — one that should feel both supportive and accessible. Many of my clients are pleased to learn that their counselling sessions are covered in full or in part by their insurance plans.

Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) Coverage

As a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) through the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA), my services are recognized by many major insurance providers across Canada. Depending on your plan, you may be reimbursed for counselling sessions provided by a Registered Professional Counsellor.

Insurance Companies That Commonly Cover RPCs

While coverage varies by plan, the following insurance providers often include counselling with an RPC under their mental health benefits:

  • Canada Life (Great-West Life)

  • Green Shield Canada

  • Manulife

  • Blue Cross (including Saskatchewan Blue Cross and Medavie)

  • Sun Life

  • iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance)

  • GroupSource

  • Desjardins

  • ClaimSecure

  • Equitable Life of Canada

  • Johnston Group

  • Empire Life

  • & More

If you’re unsure whether your plan includes coverage for an RPC, I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly and asking the following question:

“Are services provided by a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) covered under my plan?”

Direct Billing & Receipts

At this time, direct billing is not available, but you will receive a detailed receipt after each session that includes all necessary professional information for easy reimbursement through your provider’s online claim system.

Other Options for Financial Support

If your plan does not cover RPCs, there may still be ways to make counselling more affordable:

  • Many Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) or wellness benefits reimburse counselling services.

  • Some health spending accounts (HSAs) also cover Registered Professional Counsellors.

  • You can also choose to claim counselling expenses on your tax return under medical expenses in certain cases — check with your accountant for eligibility.

Sessions Covered Across Canada

Whether you attend sessions in person in Saskatoon or online from anywhere in Saskatchewan or across Canada, your receipts remain valid for reimbursement with insurance plans that cover RPC services.
